About the Simeon Centre

Family, Anger, Stress, Relationships, Addictions, Bullying, Confidence, Self-Esteem : TALK ABOUT IT We offer the opportunity to talk though your feelings in a confidential, peaceful and sensitive environment.

Talk to us about: Relationships, Stress, Alcohol Abuse, Depression, Family Problems, Anxiety, Loss, Abuse, Low Self Esteem.

We believe in the individual, that each individual should have access to counselling and more importantly, that each individual has a right to be heard.

Confidentiality is essential to this whole process and all our counsellors work to the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). They are also subject to ongoing training and regular supervision.

The centre is staffed by male and female counsellors who give their time freely each week. There is no cost involved for the sessions and appointments are open to anyone over the age of 16.

Each session offered will be up to 50 minutes and the appointment will take place in a quiet room in the Victoria Hall. There is no limit to the number of sessions you can have but the work will be reviewed regularly.

Crisis appointments are also available.

What is counselling?

Counselling offers an opportunity for people to explore different ways of looking at their lives and to move towards effective ways of coping. There are many different definitions of counselling but basically it is two people working together over a period of time where one (the counsellor) encourages and supports the other (the client) through the client's difficulties. Two elements of Yin and Yang

The overall aim of counselling is to provide an opportunity for the client to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way. Counselling may be concerned with development issues; addressing and resolving specific problems; making decisions for yourself; coping with crisis; developing personal insights and knowledge; working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others.

Is it for you?

None of us know when we might need counselling. It is something you don't plan for but it's something many of us need at some time in our life, whether to help us cope with the pain of bereavement, to try and face losses in our life, or an opportunity to talk with someone about the stress and anxiety of day-to-day living.

Time is given freely at the Simeon CentreMany of us at times long for someone to sit and listen to us and essentially the Simeon Centre provides an opportunity for you to have time to be heard.

A trained counsellor is there to listen to whatever you wish to talk about. Solutions to problems are not offered but rather time, attention and respect, to help you to resolve conflicts, make decisions for yourself and come to terms with things that cannot be changed.

People are accepted as they are to enable them to talk freely about themselves without fear of being judged.
